Artist's Commentsthey are turning my head ... So I kind of needed something to bump down that sexycake.  Nacho I don't think this is what you meant but, well, it's a picture of Dave, and a picture of GG. I was planning to upload this anyway before I got struck by SUDDEN URGES (i... involving cake), so I'm sorry for the spammage everybody but we will return to our regular schedule after this!Wasn't a big fan of Dave/GG before she was revealed (on MSPA for those of you who don't know), but now she has I can't really see her being with John. This is because they look similar. VOTE DAVE/GG: BECAUSE JOHN/GG LOOKS LIKE INCEST. the moral of this story is that every asian is related to each other. Anyways, what happened is that `alexds1 said to me on the forums, (yes she talked to me! isn't that awesome??? But I didn't act all WOW because it must suck to be treated like a star.) "you can do better." and my reply was basically "hahaha yep I know I can do better  these were all just doodles!" If you have seen at least one of my pictures on oekaki, you will know nothing I draw ends up being a doodle. So then I figured if I'm taking 1 hour, I mightiswell take 3 hours, and here we are!For once I'm really happy with my shading; something I set out to do here was not overwork my gradients, and for the most part it's worked out well. As for the background... eh. The trees aren't half bad, but backgrounds aren't my strong point. I'm just glad it conveys the right emotion. Yes setting things in Japan is ugh and weaboo but I drew it to a certain song called Lovers in Japan and I think I should probably stick to the source material. As you can see no I did not research the lyrics before drawing the picture. Looking for crits as usual! Tips for hair highlighting especially appreciated, I tried dodge (or is it burn?)ing it and it was irritatingly obvious. Also ideas for making the background (particularly the sky) less plain are cool too.  Alternative title: MEW THIS WAS MEANT TO BE A SECRET. |

This is just... so adorable! Really. And yes, the shading makes a great perspective that seems to somehow add to the mood. Those trees and petals are great; lovely and delicate.

ahhh I really love your backgrounds they're so pastel-y and those petals are just perfect and believe me I would know DDD:
hair? hmm actually I didn't notice the dodge-burn until you pointed it out |DDDD;;; if I were to use it I usually dodge over a random splodge of color and use a regular brush so that the dodging doesn't get carried away
it does help though, now that I look at the picture, to show individual strands of hair--it may be how you draw, but when you render it like that, it just looks all gelled up like that: play with the lineart of the hair, maybe use some smaller brushes and show some strands above the forehead and at the bottom : D
